Beyond the Classroom Network

This innovative education initiative gives teachers the opportunity to move their
classrooms into the rich world beyond the school so that learning becomes deeper.
Week-long experiences in such sites as museums, zoos, city halls and nature centres
are ideal catalysts for the “habits of mind” that help students to be the creative, curious,
thoughtful citizens that our world needs.

This award winning concept began in Calgary in 1993 but has since spread to many
communities across Canada, including some in the United States. There are many
names used for this program but this web site is to help people understand more
about the concept and to link various sites together in the Beyond the
Classroom network.
